Bead/Fiber Combination
Weave-Along 17: The Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet (again)
A few years ago, Mirrix’s CEO Claudia Chase came up with a fun and easy way to combine beads and fiber on a Mirrix Loom. Using the shedding device, beading cord, 8/0 beads, silk and novelty yarn Claudia came up with the first Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet.
The project took off almost immediately and has been featured in Beadwork Magazine, Beads, Baubles & Jewels and in our class on Craftsy.
Why is this cuff so popular?
1.) It’s gorgeous. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that I didn’t like.
2.) It’s easy. Nervous about warping or weaving? This project will get you over your fears.
3.) It’s innovative. This method of adding beads to a fiber project using the shedding device was pioneered by Claudia in this project. To this day I still get satisfaction watching those beads fit perfectly between the warp threads.
4.) It’s a stepping stone. Want to weave tapestry but not sure how to get started? This project will get your feet wet… and will get you excited to weave more!
5.) It sparks creativity. I love watching people weave these bracelets because you can see the creativity take hold. From different materials to colors to patterns, no bracelet is the same!
Today I was making some edits to our Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet Ebook (you can download the new version here) and I started thinking that a new weave-along with this old project might be really fun. Whether you’re a seasoned-Mirrixer or you’re just jumping in to the world of Mirrix, this is a fun project to learn and a great weave-along to do with your friends (on and offline) and the Mirrix community.
On June 14th, 2015 we will begin our second Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet Weave-Along (the first was way back in 2011). In it we will go over all the basics of weaving a Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet and will go a little deeper into detail about tapestry techniques you can use to make your cuff unique. We’ll also introduce some fun material options you can use!
We’re calling this our Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet Weave-Along Version 2 and we hope you’ll join us!
PLUS you’ll get $10 off the Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet Kit or $20 off an 8″, 12″, 16″ or 22″ Mirrix Loom with a shedding device, a Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet Kit and a free 10-dent warp coil worth $10-$14.
