Bead/Fiber Combination
Save With a Loom Weave-Along Package!
Interested in learning to combine beads and fiber on a Mirrix Loom? We have the perfect way to get started!
Next week, our 17th weave-along will begin. A weave-along is a free online class where participants receive weekly emails with instructions (written, pictures and video) for each step of the weave-along project. For this weave-along, we will revisit our fabulous (and famous) Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet Project. In it you will learn the basics of weaving on a Mirrix, how to combine beads and fiber, a few tapestry techniques and how to finish this gorgeous bracelet. You can learn more about the weave-along and sign-up here.
If you haven’t yet purchased a Mirrix yet, we have a special loom package available just for this weave-along that includes everything you need to get started (besides basics like a good pair of scissors). You’ll save $20 on the package and get a free 10-dent coil that is perfect for this project. It’s a great deal and the perfect way to get started making beautiful, handmade bead and fiber creations!
Check out the Weave-Along 17 Loom and Kit Package here.
We look forward to weaving-along with you!
Bead/Fiber Combination
Weave-Along 17: The Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet (again)
A few years ago, Mirrix’s CEO Claudia Chase came up with a fun and easy way to combine beads and fiber on a Mirrix Loom. Using the shedding device, beading cord, 8/0 beads, silk and novelty yarn Claudia came up with the first Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet.
The project took off almost immediately and has been featured in Beadwork Magazine, Beads, Baubles & Jewels and in our class on Craftsy.

Introducing Weave-Along 16: The Spiral Split Split-Loom Necklace
We’ve had a lot of people ask for instructions on how to make a split-loom necklace. That is where the inspiration for this weave-along came from. This relatively simple piece has an ornate feel and would look lovely with anything from jeans and a t-shirt to a fancy black dress. Want to learn the techniques used to make this necklace?
Grab your loom and let’s get started!

What’s a Weave-Along?
A weave-along is a FREE online course. Claudia Chase and Elena Zuyok of Mirrix Looms will lead participants through a project woven on a loom. Every Sunday participants will get an email going over what participants worked on week before and giving instructions and tips for the week ahead. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and engage with other members of the weave-along via email and social media sites including the Mirrix Facebook Page, Mirrix Facebook Group and Mirrix Ravelry Page. This is a community event!
Please note you must be using a genuine Mirrix Loom to participate
What You’ll Need:
–A Mirrix Loom, 8″ or larger with a 14 dent coil
-A beading needle (we love Tulip Bead Weaving Needles)
-Three colors of 11/0 Delica beads (10 gram tubes of each color). We used copper, turquoise and purple bead colors, but you can use anything you want.
–C-Lon beading thread (or other beading thread)
-Dagger beads

Weave-Along 14, which will begin in September, is for people who have woven at least some tapestry before. (If you need a little experience, check out Rebecca Mezoff’s online tapestry class before the weave-along begins.)
In this weave-along, participants will learn a technique of weaving with two shedding devices. This technique allows you to make a more textured tapestry. You’ll be able to weave, let’s say, 14 dents per inch and, at the same time, 7 dent per inch.
The piece will not have a pattern, but will be a tapestry done with silk and Waverly wool. You will be able to buy supplies from our website, but can also use your own!
As part of the weave-along, we will give a discount on
purchasing a second shedding device.
More information to come next week! Let us know if you’re interested in the comments, by email or via social media!

Weave-Alongs 12 & 13
Weave-Along 12: Jewel Cuff Bracelet
Starts December 1st –FINISHED
One Week Weave-Along – Make a gift fast!

Weave-Along 13 : Rag Mug Rug (or runner or rug… you choose the size)
Starts December 15th
Two Week Weave-Along
There will not be a kit for this weave-along.
You’ll need:
-Cotton or wool rags. Either strip material you already have: old clothes, sheets, fabric you never turned into the gorgeous sundress, etc. or by some brand new material from the fabric store (on sale of course). The strips should be about half an inch wide. Rip them, don’t cut them.
-Wool warp (our Navajo warp would be great) if you are using wool rags and cotton warp (The Woolery is a great source for this) if you are using cotton rags.
Tools:
-A Mirrix Loom with shedding device size 8 inch or up.
-A good beater. The heavier, the better.
Bead Weaving, Projects
Next Weave along: Crystal and Bead Cuff Bracelet
I made a zillion of these and then gave most of them away. I was in one of those moods. This bracelet weaves up very quickly. It probably takes longer to finish (attach to cuff and embellish) than it does to weave. I would say total time to weave and finish is about two and a half hours, which makes it a “not-slow project” so great for those of you who have a lot of gifts to whip up for girls/women this holiday season. The kit, which I haven’t put together just yet (give me a day or so) will include enough materials to make two cuffs. Below are two examples. One without embellishment beads along the edge and one with. Obviously, the one without embellishment beads will take less time to finish. I like them both. If you are not going to be embellishing with beads along the edge, you need to be very careful with stitching the beaded piece to the cuff. In any case, once on a wrist, those stitches will barely show but the cuff will not always be on someone’s wrist and you want it to look good then too.

Confetti and Bead Necklace Weave-Along Week 2
Welcome to the second week of Mirrix’s Weave-Along! We’re ready to get to the fun part- weaving! This is the bulk of the weave-along, so remember to ask questions if you have them! We can always be reached directly (email: elena@mirrixlooms.com) or via social media sites like Facebook or Ravelry.
This is how the LaniLoom looks with her warp on. You want to lift the bar in back so that there is at least seven inches of warp between the bar and where you will begin weaving. That should leave seven inches on the other end as well. I you’ve extended your loom more than 18 inches, you can increase the fringe by half the number of inches you increased your height by. So that if your loom is now 20 inches high, you can make your fringe 8 inches.
Let’s begin weaving! Your first row will be two crystals. Once you’ve woven the row, tie and knot the the thread to adjust the initial width of the piece. You can sew that end in later.
Next weave one solid row of beads (I used the pink) followed by that bead, two of another bead color (I used the gold), repeat that row and end with a solid row of the original color. Then add another row of crystals in whatever color you want. I used the pink. Remember, you goal is to evenly distribute these colors throughout the piece.
Continue weaving this pattern until there are 41 sections of beads and 42 rows of crystals.
You are going to have to advance your piece several times. Note how at one point, I move the warping bar to the top of the loom.
In this next photo you will see that the bar has been moved down to the front of the loom to create room for those final rows of beads. Again, you will leave at least seven inches of empty warp ending with a row of cyrstals.
You can see now how easy this project is to do! It’s simple traditional bead weaving, but the results are stunning with the different sized beads and crystals. You can use this technique elsewhere and really experiment using different sized beads, crystals, stones or anything else you can think of!
What different materials would you use in a similar project?
