Silk Bracelets Galore (plus a new kit and a great deal)
By Mirrix CEO Claudia Chase
I cannot stop making these.
Two were made on an eight inch loom and one was made on a Mini Mirrix. Because of the way I wove it, it didn’t much matter whether or not I used a shedding device. When you are weaving across two or three warps, which was of ten the case, it doesn’t make much sense to reach up and change the shed. I did have the shedding device on the eight inch loom for occasions when I wove from selvedge to selvedge.
This bracelet is very easy to weave if you have woven any tapestry before. Simply weave sections of slit tapestry (where you weave up color blocks next to each other, creating a slit between the blocks) and, instead of leaving your ends loose in the back of the piece, weave them into the piece so the bracelet is double-sided. To finish simple sew each end of the bracelet into a loop, one around one side of the finding and the other so it can slip onto the other side of the finding.

Hi Elena,
Can this bracelet be made on my loom? You show it on the smaller looms.

Yes, any smaller project can be made on a larger loom.

As a beginner how do I learn about “slit” tapestry. I would like to make these bracelets.

Any basic tapestry book (or class) will show you how to do slit tapestry. It is basically just weaving up in different columns and leaving a slit between them. Will put a blog post about this on my list!
Donna
Thank you, I would really like to learn.

If you’re interested in getting into tapestry, I would definitely recommend a tapestry book like Kathe Todd-Hooker’s “Tapestry 101” or Nancy Harvey’s Tapestry Book. It’s always great to have a reference around!
Donna
Thank you. I like the idea of the tapestry, tapestry/bead in small projects such as the bracelets.

Missed the cut off … forgot to order the loom and bracelet kit last night. Any possibility of an extension?
