New FARO Tapestry Yarn Starter Package
The number of tapestry weavers seems to be growing at an unprecedented rate. And along with that growth has come an increasing demand for tapestry yarn. Not all tapestry yarn is the same. And in reality, until very recently, tapestry yarn was not so easy to find. Yes, there are some sources, but nothing like the sources one finds for beads and gems. Additionally, these yarns are not usually available in your local yarn store which is geared much more toward knitting, crochet or even the weaving of cloth. Tapestry, the perennial stepchild of the weaving scene has gotten little attention when it comes to the yarns she most requires.
And what are those yarns? Tapestry yarn requirements differ quite a bit form the requirements for, let’s say, knitting a sweater or weaving a scarf. Those yarns tend to be made from finer fibers (merino, the stuff of your smart socks, comes to mind . . . you know those fluffy sheep that we think of as the standard sheep), are shorter in length and are intended to keep you warm. Whereas a tapestry yarn wants to have long staple fibers that are very strong. How well they accept dye is also critical. The fleece to make these yarns would come from sheep with very long fleeces, nothing like the fluffy kind.
Good tapestry yarn can be hard hard to find! To that end, we are excited to present our new line of Swedish tapestry yarns. This single-ply yarn called FARO is quite thin, extremely strong and comes in a nice selection of colors. It comes in 100 gram skeins (3.5 ounces) at a length of 650 yards. We have picked sixteen of those colors to create a Tapestry Yarn Starter Package. We spent weeks agonizing over our selection and were thrilled when the yarns arrived and we felt our choices were really, really good. We think this yarn package is the perfect jumping off point for those of you who do not own any tapestry yarn but also a nice addition to a growing tapestry yarn collection. You can never have too much tapestry yarn.
Until we discover how much interest we have in this yarn (before I fill up my studio and beyond with it!) we are taking pre-orders. Once a few people have ordered the package, we will order more of the yarn. It may take a few weeks to get your yarn, but if quite a few folks are interested right up front, we will order a bunch and get your orders out in a very timely fashion. So tell your friends!
We are also now selling this same gorgeous FARO yarn in unbleached for those of you who love to dabble with the dyepot. There is a discount if you purchase five of these skeins.
